Title: Webmaster

POSITION SUMMARY
The Webmaster will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of CDF’s main website (www.childrensdefense.org) and several related websites, including content, design and technical aspects to ensure a stable, well-designed, effective, up-to-date, and properly maintained web presence. The Webmaster will work with all other Departments and State Offices to write, edit, proofread and update website content. The Webmaster will work with CDF’s Communications Department, and more specifically the Web Team, to develop and implement overall integrated strategy for the website, and develop longer-term strategies to incorporate new features, new media, and new functionality. He/she will act as liaison to outside technology vendors to manage technical capabilities and troubleshoot problems. This position reports directly to the Director of Online Communications.

The Children's Defense Fund is a non-profit advocacy organization that has worked relentlessly for 35 years to ensure a level playing field for all children. We work with individuals, communities and policy makers to enact, fund and implement public policy and promote successful programs that lift children out of poverty, protect them from abuse and neglect, ensure access to health care and quality education, and provide a moral and spiritual foundation to help them succeed with the support of caring adults and communities. Begun in 1973, the Children's Defense Fund is supported by foundation and corporate grants and individual donations and does not take government funds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
>> Create, develop, proofread and manage content for organization’s online presence through CDF’s Content Management System (CMS) and Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) platform.
>> Coordinate web projects and maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties, ensuring brand management.
>> Develop and incorporate new features, new media, and new functionality to provide interactive and engaging content.
>> Edit multimedia when provided and incorporate into CDF websites.
>> Recommend technology enhancements and preserve and improve the integrity, and functionality of the site’s design.
>> Handle light graphic design of new page elements in house and manage outside design consultants for larger projects.
>> Train staff (i.e. "web liaisons") in use of the CDF's CMS and CRM.
>> Work with department and State Office "web liaisons" to identify existing materials and new content for inclusion on the site and assists them in editing, updating and developing online content. Also work to provide "web liaisons" with web development best practices.
>> Regularly monitor, updates report and provide analysis on website traffic and email campaign performance.
>> Respond quickly to urgent requests, manage breaking news on the web, and answer inquiries from website users, relevant public inquiries, etc.
>> Manage and develop email templates (HTML) for CDF's email communications.
>> Work with consultants providing web services.
>> Manage and monitor status of all of CDF’s multiple web sites and domains.

QUALIFICATIONS:
>> Experience in the design, development, and maintenance of CMS-based websites.
>> Comfortable with web analytics software and metrics.
>> Proficiency in use of HTML, XHTML, and CSS or other basic Web development tools (e.g. JavaScript).
>> Experience in Photoshop and Macromedia Flash and a good sense of design and optimization of graphics for the web.
>> Quick learning curve, particularly with software and technical skills.
>> Attentive to detail and strong, concise writing ability.
>> Experience incorporating multi-media content and Web 2.0 technology to enhance online content.
>> Experience with CMS and CRM software platforms preferred.
>> Familiarity with cross browser issues, W3C standards, user interface design principles, and usability accessibility issues desirable.
>> Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with daily deadlines, work independently with direction from others, and problem solve.
>> Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks
>> Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with staff on many levels of the organization.
>> Commitment to social advocacy and CDF’s mission to be a voice for all children in America.
>> Willing to stay abreast of professional standards, trends and issues affecting this set of responsibilities.
