Sojourners has an immediate opening for an experienced, well-rounded Chief Development Officer (CDO). We seek a dynamic fundraising professional to lead the evolution, growth, and implementation of all Sojourners fundraising efforts, including established programs in major gifts, foundation relations, and individual giving. The Chief Development Officer works closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer.
FUNDRAISING
Develop and manage the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Sojourners, in the areas of major donors, foundation relations, and individual giving, working in collaboration with staff, the Board Development Committee, and fundraising consultants. Cultivate, solicit, and steward a caseload of prospective major donors and make foundation visits, as needed. Analyze and forecast Sojourners fundraising potential for use in organizational financial planning. Responsible for writing, guiding, supervising, and implementing an annual fundraising plan and calendar, as well as yearly updating a five-year fundraising plan. Develop and implement a variety of communications strategies to support development and fundraising initiatives, including donor solicitation materials and an annual report. SUPERVISION
Provide supervision for the Director of Major Gifts, Director of Foundation Relations, and Associate Director of Individual Giving. Plan and lead regular Development Department staff meetings. Coach and train development staff. REPORTING AND ADMINISTRATION
Monitor, record, analyze, and report on fundraising results. Attend relevant organizational planning, program, and strategy meetings and report back to the department on a timely basis. Ensure that all administrative requirements, such as state registrations and audit reports, are completed in a timely fashion. MANAGEMENT
Serve on the Senior Management Team to represent development concerns as well as to provide general organizational oversight. Compile the Development Department budget and monitor department financial reports. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Five years experience directing a nonprofit development department. Master’s degree in relevant field preferred. Demonstrated skills in budgeting, financial analysis, and revenue forecasting. Proven experience in project management and strategic planning. Experience required in writing and implementing fundraising plans. Experience and achievement in cultivating and soliciting major gifts and foundation grants. Strong interpersonal skills; persuasive public speaking ability; superior writing and editing skills; significant experience in dealing effectively with high net worth individuals. Knowledge of church and progressive faith-based networks and perspectives. Experience in leading a capital campaign, creating an endowment, and developing a planned giving program. Ability and interest in periodic travel. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with fundraising databases a plus. TO APPLY:
