Four Useful Apps for Nonprofits

There are tons of apps on the market today, but finding useful ones for nonprofits can be a challenge. No worries though - because Care2's Frogloop found four great apps that nonprofits can benefit from.

Threadsy:  If you are a multi-tasker that likes to track your email and social media streams in one central space then you will love Threadsy. In a nutshell, this dashboard streams Facebook, Twitter, Instant Messaging, and email. By using Threadsy you no longer have to login to several different accounts to read and send email, tweet, or post updates. The user interface is clean and overall the system is intuitive to use.  Note: It’s still in beta and you will need an invite.  I have 10 invites left. Leave a comment below if you are interested in receiving one.

OpenStreetMap: If you’re looking for an alternative to Google Maps that is open source, check out OpenStreetMap.org which allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on earth. The entire map of the earth has been crowdsourced. While the OpenStreetMap may not be as slick looking as Google Maps, it’s a sophisticated app that allows you to download a lot of data that you can’t in Google Maps.

Yammer: Have you ever wanted to just tweet with your office colleagues but not have it be so public on Twitter? Check out Yammer, a tool that allows people at your organization to connect and share via 140 characters. Yammer is also great for organizations that have large staffs and teams that work in different offices.

Balsamiq: Thinking about creating a new microsite campaign or embarking on a new website redesign? Try Balsamiq, an easy to use application that helps you build wireframes (black and white schematics that provide a visual guide of how a microsite or website will look and function) quickly. With Balsmiq, you can drag and drop items and add yellow sticky notes to write out ideas or suggestions. Balsamiq also makes it really easy to collaborate with other key staff because you can tweak it in real time.

You should follow Frogloop on Twitter.

Great posting. I'd love to check out Threadsy if there are still any invites available. Either way - I am now bugging everyone in the office to get on Yammer. Thanks!

Great article. I'm going to check out Balsamiq since we're in the early stages of creating our web site. Could you send me a Threadsy invite? Sounds like another great service I'd like to explore. Thanks!

Hi Allyson,

I'd love to have an invite. Threadsy sounds nice. Can you spare one for me?

Thanks!

Does Threadsy have a limit as to how many tweets it will deliver to your email at one time. I was really interested in NutShellMail, which promises the same type of thing but has major limitations in the amount of tweets it will deliver to your email. I'd love a Threadsy invite to test it out though.

Threadsy sounds like a great dashboard, with the inclusion of email. Sounds like a convenient way to delegate responses as well. Of course, I'd love an invite.

I can already vouch for Balsamiq. For quick dirty prototypes, it takes a bit to feel confident in the interface, but you're up and running.

I think you have probably used up all your invites to Threadsy by now, but perhaps someone else will have one that they can spare.
Thanks
