Good language is fundamental for the success of any marketing/branding campaign, online or otherwise. And by "good" I mean to say it's important to use words that are strong, direct, and visceral when writing. The whole global warming misnomer is a perfect example of how weak language can work against an issue. Words should always work to illustrate ideas rather than qualify them.

All too often, the bureaucratic nature of large organizations forces language that ought to be clear and compelling on petitions and in newsletters to come off seemingly sanitized and somewhat uninspiring. To dovetail this idea a bit – I’ll bring up the current Democratic paralysis. We’ve all heard political pundits theorize that the Democrats continually deaden their efforts by not wanting offend. Think John Kerry and the sound-bite: trying to articulate his positions on a given issue within 8 seconds or less truly worked to his demise. His verbal short-comings are one example of many such cases from our side of the fence. Which leads me to ask, how much is poor communication a plague of progressives?
